Currency of Georgia - Georgian Lari

The currency of Georgia is the Georgian Lari, with one Lari equalling 100 Tetri. Notes come in denominations of GEL500, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1, with coins coming in denominations of 50, 20, 10 and 5 Tetri. Smaller denominations of notes should be carried, as there is no guarantee there will be enough money to cover change in smaller establishments.

Special exchange shops are available to change US Dollars, Pounds Sterling and Russian Roubles, but other currencies must be exchanged in banks. Traveller’s cheques are accepted, though to avoid additional conversion charges these should be in either US Dollars or Pounds Sterling.
